Eighteen months, thousands of kilometres, countless campsites - and a Thermomix® by her side. For Mel, a mum of three with a husband working FIFO and a love of life on the road, the past year and a half has been nothing short of transformative. She’s proof that you don’t need to be tied to a desk - or even a fixed address - to build a thriving Thermomix® Consultancy.
From a caravan kitchen, parked everywhere from free camps to beaches, Mel has shown that with passion, flexibility, and a Thermomix®, anything is possible.
From humble beginnings to big adventures
Mel’s Thermomix® journey began back in 2013, when she saved every spare cent—through garage sales and birthday contributions—to buy her very first machine, a TM31. As a single mum to a toddler, cooking from scratch was her lifeline.
Fast forward a few years, and with a growing family and a TM6 by her side, she saw the potential to do more. Becoming a Consultant wasn’t just about sharing her love for cooking; it was about creating a business she could take on the road while exploring Australia with her children.
“I saw the potential earning capacity while travelling. What I envisioned and what happened looked a little different, but that’s the beauty of this role—it adapts with you.”
Life on the road with Thermomix®
A typical day in the caravan might start with pancakes hacked into corn fritters or perfectly steamed eggs in the Varoma. Lunch is often prepped ahead of time, ready to grab when they stop driving for the day. By mid-afternoon, Mel is cooking dinner—or going live to her followers.
When you’re off-grid 90% of the time, every drop of water and watt of power matters. That’s where Thermomix® shines. From chunky bolognese that doubles as spag bol, lasagna, or a baked spud topping, to hearty risottos and one-pot vegetarian chilli, Mel keeps meals simple, versatile, and family-friendly.
“I use my Thermomix every single day. It’s my kettle, my breadmaker, my slow-cooker, my extra pair of hands. I even use it to reheat dinners in the Varoma—it saves water, power, money, and fridge space.”
Building a business from anywhere
While the caravan kitchen keeps her family fed, her Thermomix® Consultancy keeps her connected. Mel runs most of her business online, holding Zoom demos, streaming lives from her caravan, and chatting with customers in the pockets of time between naps, travel, and play.
She has, however, ran demos in all sorts of places—from the side of the road to free camps under the stars. One memorable moment? A freezing 9pm demo outside Mount Barker that led to not one, but three Thermomix® sales.
And thanks to her travels, she’s met customers and fellow Consultants across the country, building a network that stretches from Perth to Brisbane.
“I’ve made friends everywhere I go. People recognise me on the road—it’s surreal. This business has given me the confidence to connect with people in ways I never imagined.”
The rewards of flexibility
For Mel, the biggest perk of being a Consultant is the freedom. She works around her kids’ routines, without needing daycare, and can keep moving from town to town without putting her business on hold.
The flexibility has paid off in more ways than one: she’s earned her way to ThermoFest, secured incredible bonuses, and built a business that works wherever she is—whether parked in a caravan park or towing solo across the country.
“If I can run a business with three kids, a FIFO husband, and 50% of my life on the road, anyone can. You make it work for you.”
Inspiring others to take the leap
Mel’s story is more than just a tale of caravan adventures. It’s about showing others that Thermomix® Consultancy transformed her life – helping her grow in confidence, discover new strengths, and feel proud of the business she’s built on her own terms. Being a Consultant isn’t just about selling, it’s about helping people, building connections and empowering others.
“Being proud to walk through a town with my business shirt on and chat to people means conversations start about food—not just the everyday camping talk about dump points and loo options!”
Mel’s journey shows that Thermomix® Consultancy can fit into any lifestyle—whether you’re based in the city, juggling family life, or chasing the freedom of the open road.
