Make the most of your Thermomix® Cutter

We all love how Thermomix® makes food prep nice and easy, but it gets better with the Thermomix® Cutter making slicing, dicing and grating easier than ever before! Not only will you be able to save time in the kitchen, but you can also easily achieve impressive results with accurate cuts and add restaurant-quality visual appeal to your dishes.

Now, before you get started and try out your new Thermomix® Cutter, let's do a quick check to make sure you've got everything (the Drive shaft can often get left behind) and take a moment to discover our simple how-to’s and top tips on unlocking its full potential and broadening the possibilities of your Thermomix®.

Grey for grate, slate for slice

The Thermomix® Cutter is a 4 in 1 tool that will allow you to thinly and thickly grate and slice ingredients while keeping your Thermomix® bowl clean. Remember, side 1 (slate – the dark colour) is for slicing (thin and thick) while side 2 (grey – the light colour) is for thick and thin grating.

Let's start slicing, dicing and grating!

  1. Before putting your Thermomix® Cutter together, ensure your mixing bowl is fully inserted, correctly positioned in the Thermomix® TM6 or TM5 and empty.
  2. Place the drive shaft on to the blades, ensuring it’s correctly positioned. Keep in mind the base of the shaft should be fitted on the centre of the blades and the shaft should stay vertical.
  3. Pop the cutter basket on the drive shaft – the drive shaft should appear through the central hole of the basket.
  4. Always hold the cutting disc by the central hub (the disc itself is very sharp). Place the disc on to the drive shaft with the desired cutting side facing up.
  5. Place the cutter lid on the basket. The locking arms will lock the cutter in place when the motor is activated.
  6. Insert your ingredients through the feeder.
  7. Use the pusher to gently press the ingredients down through the feeder tube.

Note: When finished using the Thermomix® Cutter, don’t forget to remove the shaft before continuing with your recipe!

Using your Thermomix® Cutter with the TM5 or TM6

With your Thermomix® TM6, simply swipe to the modes and choose slicing or grating. Once in the mode, you can choose between a thin or thick cut – just turn the selector to select one of the options.

With your TM5, for thin slices or thin grating, set a maximum time of 1 minute, select reverse rotation and turn the selector to speed 4. For thick slices or thick grating, set a maximum time of 1 minute and turn the selector to speed 5. Always set the time to 1 minute maximum to avoid overfilling the basket and always use speed 4.

Our top tips for pro results!

  • Use fruits and vegetables that are ripe but firm to touch such as tomatoes, avocado or mango.
  • Cured sausages and salami can be sliced but fresh and cooked sausages are too soft to slice neatly and evenly.
  • Slicing or grating in batches will ensure better results and prevents the overflow in the cutter basket – max. per batch ~ 800g.
  • When slicing or grating cheese, ensure that you only use cold, hard cheeses (like parmesan) and place upright in the narrow or wide part of the feeder
  • Separate ingredients according to the type of cut to avoid having to turn the disc several times.
  • Cooked and frozen ingredients are not suitable for slicing or grating with the Thermomix® Cutter (with the exception of beetroot).
  • Place the cutter side up for the side you wish to use – if you’re grating, place the grey side up. If you’re slicing, place the slate side up.
