5 unexpected ways with pizza dough

We don’t want to brag, but the Thermomix pizza dough is the stuff of legends. It’s quick, easy, and makes a huge amount in just one batch (up to 4 pizzas!). But did you know this versatile dough can be used for more than just pizza? It’s all about learning to more with less effort. Sounds good right?

So once you’ve mastered this easy recipe, get creative and turn it into many, many more delicious things. From Cinnamon Scrolls to Steamed Pork Buns, here are five delicious and unexpected ways to get creative with Thermomix pizza dough.

1. Pizza Pockets

Because what’s better than pizza? Mini calzone pizzas! These bite-sized treats make the perfect lunchbox snack and are a party-pleaser when you need to feed a crowd fast. They’re also freezer friendly. For best results, pop into the freezer after you’ve assembled them and then allow to defrost for 1 hour before baking. Click here for the free recipe or add it to your library at Cookidoo.com.au.

Tip: Speed up your prep time significantly by using our Stainless Steel Dumpling Mould that just happens to be the perfect pizza pocket size.

2. Cinnamon Scrolls

Since you’re on a roll, it’s time to try your hand at making cinnamon scrolls! Once you’ve made your pizza dough, follow these steps for a sweet, cinnamon filling that can be spread over your rolled out pizza dough then wrapped up tight!

  1. Make Pizza Dough as per recipe and roll out to approx size of a ThermoMat (60x40cm).
  2. Place 150g unsalted butter (cut into pieces), 150g brown sugar and 3 tbsp ground cinnamon into mixing bowl and mix 10 sec/speed 6.
  3. Spread cinnamon mixture over pizza dough, leaving 1 inch gap along the top long edge.
  4. Starting from bottom long edge, roll into a log, tightening the log as you go.
  5. Transfer the log to chopping board or hard surface lined with baking paper. Using a serrated knife, cut the dough into 12 even-sized pieces.
  6. Arrange rolls onto a greased and lined slice tin or rose gold cake pan, just slightly touching each other.
  7. Bake for 22-23 minutes at 190°C.
  8. Transfer onto a wire rack to cool before serving.

If you’re feeling fancy, top your homemade scrolls with a drizzle of royal or cream cheese icing.

Handy tip: If you’re looking for perfect, bakery worthy round scrolls, trying cutting your scrolls using the dental floss trick!

3. Char Siu Bao Pork Buns

Can you use pizza dough to make steamed buns? Yeah you can! We subbed in our pizza dough in Dani Valent’s Char Siu Pork Buns recipe and we’ve got to admit, even we were surprised how well they turned out. When steamed, the pizza dough becomes light, soft and pillowy – just what you want from a pork bun! You can find the recipe for the filling in Dani’s cookbook Entertaining with Dani Valent, or at Cookidoo.

Must have accessory: Vented Varoma Papers, ThermoMat.

4. Herb and Garlic Pull Apart Bread

When it comes to one-pot winter comfort food, you can’t go dunking some dumplings into a rich and hearty casserole. This is an especially good way to use up any leftover pizza dough lying around in your freezer (if that’s even a thing). Try our Beef and Mushroom Hot Pot from our cookbook Simply Delicious or at Cookidoo.com.au.

So we’ve shared ours, now what are yours? Share your favourite idea for using our pizza dough with the hashtags #homemadehero and #thermomixaus for the chance to go into the running to win our new Dumpling mould and a ThermoMat!
