If you’re craving the exotic or familiar authentic flavours of Asia, our new Thermomix Asian cookbook is your virtual ticket to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Taiwan. Over 60 Thermomix Asian recipes take you from sweet and sour, to bitter, salty and spicy.

If it’s a true taste of home you’re hankering for, Around Asia will take you right back to the traditional Asian recipes your mums and grandmothers used to make. The only difference is, you’ll make it quicker and easier with your Thermomix.

Or if you’re yearning for those local dishes you discovered on holiday, or a visit to your favourite restaurant, you can easily escape to that happy place anytime. With your Thermomix and Around Asia cookbook as your guides, you’ll soon gain confidence and learn new techniques and culinary styles.

You can start with the familiar comforting classics, like pad Thai, massaman curry, papaya salad, Thai beef salad, spring rolls and Chinese fried rice.

And make ‘eating in’ the new ‘eating out’ with your own made-from-scratch pho, baozi, bubble tea, steamed pork buns and Chinese dumplings – which are easier to make than you might think! Then, when you’re ready, explore more regions of Asia you’ve never tasted.

Along the way, you’re likely to come across a few ingredients you’ve never cooked with before, so we’ve added a glossary to help you get familiar with the unfamiliar. And all 60+ Thermomix Asian recipes in the cookbook use ingredients that you’ll easily find in Australia and New Zealand. It’s a great opportunity to get to know your local Asian grocer or supermarket!

To help you recreate these amazing Asian recipes at home in your Thermomix, with as much ease and authenticity as possible, we had a lot of help. Our Thermomix partners in Asia, as well as our consultants and customers, all graciously shared their heritage and cooking expertise to turn Asian fakeaway into the real deal. Here’s a few of our must-try favourites.

Soto ayam – Malaysian recipe

This authentic regional dish of Malaysia is a flavoursome spiced twist on the old chicken and veg soup. Make it quick and easy using noodles, or make the rice cakes from scratch using the nasi impit recipe.

Ayam golek – Malaysian recipe

It’s spicy, but the flavours are amazing! This comforting roast chicken dish will feed a family of six. Or there's plenty for guests. You can prep it ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for an hour or so, until you’re ready to cook. Leftovers are especially delicious served cold with a salad.

Tom yum goong – Thai recipe

A popular hot (spicy) and sour soup that’s packed with healthy nourishing fresh ingredients including chilies, galangal, lemongrass and garlic. Using your Thermomix to chop, mix and cook you can easily make this beautiful broth from scratch in just 45 mins.

Thai red pork curry

Simple to make. Sensational to taste. This wonderfully fragrant dish is on the table in 35 minutes and really delivers on those authentic Thai flavours we all know and love. With its subtle heat, it’s a great family-friendly mid-week meal.

Bot chein – Vietnamese recipe

A quick and tasty lunchtime trip to Vietnam. Since developing this recipe we’ve also discovered you can buy the rice cakes pre-made in the freezer section of Asian grocers, so you only need to whip up your pickles and dipping sauce.

Banh mi – Vietnamese recipe

Meaning bread in Vietnamese, this baguette-style sandwich is regularly found on specialist food truck and deli menus. It takes the traditional lunchtime staple to a whole new level with multiple layers of flavours, textures and versatile fillings – all of which can be pre-made and stored until you’re ready to get your fill.

Yang zhou chao fan - Chinese Fried Rice

If you’re a lover of this takeaway classic, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of this rice dish. Your fakeaway will be prepped in 15 mins, ready in 35 mins and taste just like you ordered it from your favourite local Chinese restaurant.

Lu ji chi and San bei ji – Chinese recipes

These braised chicken wings and the three cup chicken dish have both been really popular in the Thermomix office. A great combo of fakeaway share plates for chicken lovers.

Not worth it

Not very good recipes. One nice one mentions masaman curry paste without recipe for it: are we expected to buy supermarket one? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of TM cooking?

Around Asia cook book

I've made several dishes from the book and they have all been fabulous. While I know we can download the recipes from Cookidoo, we like to get inspirations from flicking through a book and checking the pictures.
